What actually stands there when we say AI machine.

A compact computer, roughly the size of a thick book, sitting quietly on a desk or in a cupboard. On it runs a language model, a memory and access to your documents. No rack, no constant noise, no dedicated room. This page describes the device itself rather than repeating the reasons for it.

On the machine

What runs on it

Six parts working together. Not all of them have to be there from day one.

The language model
An open model computing entirely on the device. It reads, writes, summarises and answers questions without anything going outside for it.
The memory
A database on the machine's own disk. It sits in nobody else's account, it grows with use, and it simply travels along when you back up.
Your documents
Your folders are read in once. The originals stay exactly where they are, the machine builds an index alongside them so it can find things again.
The tools
Every tool is switched on individually and can be switched off again individually. The state it arrives in is: nothing is open.
The access
The machine sits inside your network. Whoever is in the building reaches it. From outside there is exactly one way in, and we only open it if you want it.
The upkeep
At night a short round runs: back up, check updates, self-test. On request the machine sends us a brief status message while doing so, so we can get in touch before you notice anything. Without that permission it stays quiet.

Which device is it exactly?

In most cases a Mac mini. It has enough compute for usable models, draws little power, is quiet and fits on any desk. If your case demands more, we say so and propose something else rather than talking the smallest device up.

Which model fits on a machine like that?

It depends on memory, which is why the specification of the device decides how good it gets. The more memory, the bigger the model that runs smoothly on it. We pick the combination from what you want to do with it and tell you upfront where the limit of that specification sits. Why such a model is fundamentally smaller than the cloud ones is explained on the branch page.

What does it cost?

You buy the hardware once and keep it. On top come setup and support. How much that is in your case depends on scope, and you get a quote before anything is ordered. The machine is a one-off purchase that belongs to you and that you can write off.

What happens if the machine breaks?

Your documents still sit where they sat before, the system works with copies of them. We back up the setup as well, so it can be restored onto a replacement machine instead of being rebuilt from scratch.

Does it need its own room or cooling?

No. It is a device the size of a thick book that draws roughly as much power in operation as a laptop. It needs power, network and a spot where nobody trips over it.

How loud is it in an office?

In normal operation you do not hear it. When it computes for longer the fan spins up, roughly like a laptop under load. A spot on the desk is enough for an office, no separate room needed.
